In-Home and Community Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Location: Lehigh Valley Area
Schedule: PRN/Part time

Job Summary:
At Lehigh Valley Companion Care Homes, we are committed to providing high-quality, person-centered care for the individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team and help us uphold the highest standards of care and service. The successful candidate will ensure the safety, well-being, and comfort of the individual during nighttime hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the individual throughout the night to ensure safety and promptly respond to emergencies or needs.
  • Assist with nighttime routines, including personal care, hygiene, and medication administration as specified in care plans.
  • Provide support for the individual when experiencing sleep disturbances, anxiety, or medical issues during the night.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as tidying living spaces, doing laundry, and preparing for the next day’s activities.
  • Ensure home security by checking locks, windows, and alarm systems as required.
  • Administer medications according to the individual care plan and accurately document all administrations.
  • Report and document any incidents, changes in behavior, or health concerns.
  • Follow emergency protocols and administer first aid or CPR when necessary.
  • Prepare the individual for the next day’s community activities by ensuring necessary items such as medications, clothing, and schedules are ready.
  • Maintain detailed records of overnight observations, medications administered, and support provided.
  • Communicate effectively with the supervisors, and healthcare professionals regarding updates or concerns.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; previous experience in caregiving, direct support, or a related field is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain alert and responsive during overnight hours.
