Spreading Holiday Magic: LVCCH Teams Up with the Angel Tree Program

At Lehigh Valley Companion Care Homes (LVCCH), our mission is built on the foundation of support, inclusion, and specialized care for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This past December, we wanted to extend that mission beyond the walls of our homes and directly into the heart of the Lehigh Valley community.

We are thrilled to share that LVCCH participated in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, a wonderful initiative that ensures children in our community experience the joy of opening a gift on Christmas morning.

Gifts with a Purpose

Our team selected four “Angel” tickets, but these weren’t just random names on a list to us. Several of the tickets we chose were for children with special needs—including a 6-month-old who is deaf and a 7-year-old on the autism spectrum.

Because of our daily work in the IDD community, we know that the “perfect gift” isn’t always the most popular toy on the shelf; it’s the one that meets a child where they are. We took great care in selecting items that were not only fun but also sensory-friendly and developmentally engaging.

Here is a glimpse into the wishes we were honored to fulfill:

  • For the Littlest Learners: We shopped for a 6-month-old girl and a 13-month-old boy, focusing on sensory bins, toys with lights, and “noise toys” designed to stimulate curiosity and development.

  • For the Creative Souls: For a 7-year-old girl with sensory needs, we provided a variety of dress-up clothes, make-up, and dolls to encourage imaginative play.

  • For the Big Kids: We made sure an 11-year-old boy was ready for the court with Lakers gear and a basketball, while also fueling his brain with Legos, science kits, and board games.

Why It Matters

For us at LVCCH, the holiday season is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Being able to provide meaningful support to local families—especially those navigating the complexities of special needs—is exactly what the “Companion Care” in our name is all about.

We want to thank our dedicated staff who helped organize this and the Salvation Army for allowing us to be a small part of these families’ holiday stories.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

We look forward to finding more ways to give back to the Lehigh Valley in 2026!
